The Lamps are Different but the Light is the Same (Rumi)
by Meg Thornbury
One out of five people struggles with mental illness, so odds are you or someone you know are in that 20%. There are so many platitudes about getting through hard times – “There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel!” “It’s always darkest before the dawn!” – but there are very few about how to deal with the darkness itself.
Dark times are difficult, especially for those with mental illnesses. During these times, both the person suffering and their support network need as much help and light as they can get. That is why we are proud to announce we are starting a mental health support group at St. Mary Magdalene.
Lamplight is a group both for those with mental illness and those supporting loved ones with mental illness. This is not group therapy, but a group to foster support, celebrating successes and sharing compassion for struggles. These meetings are open to our general community and all are welcome, including all and no faiths.

Blue Christmas Service
Join us at 5pm on Saturday, December 1st, for our annual Blue Christmas Service. It is a time to remember and acknowledge that for some members of our church family, the holidays may be hard. Many experiences can make it difficult to step fully into the joy of the season: loss, change, grief, uncertainty, overwhelm. People come to this service for many reasons: for self-care, to give care to one another, or simply to begin the season with gentle grounding and intention. Please join us as we ponder the promise of a light that shines in the darkness. Contact Courtney Gambrell.
