Lamplight Mental Health Support Group
Lamplight is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our first lecture on Thursday, January 3rd from 7 to 8:30pm. Alta du Pont, a therapist from the Sutherland Foundation, is coming to present on bipolar disorder. This lecture is open to all and should be very informative. We hope to see you there! The Episcopal Church Welcomes You
Fr Bruce will offer a 6-week series for adults called
The Episcopal Church Welcomes You on Wednesdays January 16 – February 20 from 6:30-8:30pm. The series will explore topics such as church history, spirituality, how we read the Bible, engagement with culture and society, and church organization. We will use Your Faith, Your Life: An Invitation to the Episcopal Church (Revised 2017) by Jennifer Gamber as our guide. The course would be especially good preparation for anyone wishing to be received into the Episcopal Church or confirmed by Bishop-elect Kym Lucas on Saturday, May 4th, but all are welcome. Please RSVP to Fr Bruce.
Newcomers’ Dinner: Saturday, January 5th
If you consider yourself new to St. Mary Magdalene within the past two years, or even longer, you are invited to attend a Newcomers’ Dinner on Saturday, January 5, following the 5:00pm Contemplative Eucharist. Come meet other people and to ask any questions you might have about St Mary Magdalene, the Episcopal Church, or any other topic. Please RSVP to the parish administrator with the number of people who are attending and any food sensitivities you might have. Looking forward to seeing you there!
A New Book for the St. Mary Magdalene Book Club
Marge and Ed Szoke are hosting the SMM Book Club at 7:15pm on Friday, February 8, to discuss Less by Andrew Sean Greer. The book won this year’s Pulitzer prize for fiction! A novel about a middle-aged novelist, this is the story of “the crazy quilt of a writer’s life: warm enough, though it never quite covers the toes.” Read a review from The Guardian here.
New Supper Clubs Forming at Mary Magdalene
The fall supper clubs groups will be finishing up this month and new groups will be formed for January. If you would like to join new supper clubs that will meet from January to May, please contact Kim Freymiller or Carmel Hill or look for them at the events table after the next two Sunday services. Supper clubs involve about eight adults, and any accompanying kids, meeting together for a meal either in homes or restaurants monthly for the sole purpose of getting to know each other. They’re fun!
Outreach Party Openings
Outreach Parties are a great way to support SMM Outreach programs and have fun, too. There are a wide variety of events offered. If you have not signed up to attend an Outreach Party there are still openings for some great parties! Contact Bill Andrews.
Becoming a Member at St Mary Magdalene
Membership at St Mary Magdalene is pretty simple and straightforward. According to our church by-laws, all that’s required is regular worship OR financial contribution OR active participation in ministry. The only other thing that’s needed is the desire to identify SMM as one’s church home. If you are feeling called to become a member of St Mary Magdalene, please contact Fr Bruce. For more information click here.
Buy Grocery Cards to Support St. Mary Magdalene
Did you know that you can support the ministry of St. Mary Magdalene by purchasing reloadable cards for stores such as King Sooper’s? SMM will receive 5% cash back for all purchases made on these cards. For example, in the second quarter of 2018 the church received $1,289.14 in proceeds from card use. It is an easy and fantastic way to support our church community. Contact Colleen Brolin to purchase cards or to learn more.
To submit an announcement for the church calendar, Parish News, website, and bulletin, email the church office no later than 12:00pm on the Tuesday prior to desired publication. Please limit announcements to 50 words or less. If more information is needed, a document can be linked to the announcements with a full description.
