“Pray Without Ceasing”
By Fr Bruce Swinehart and Cheryl Andrews
Yesterday marked the second anniversary of my ministry at St Mary Magdalene, for which I am grateful to God and to this beloved community.  I began my first day on the job with the Tuesday morning Centering Prayer gathering.  I felt there was a deep silence and stillness at the heart of our community that I was being drawn into.  It continues to nourish and sustain me.
Our prayer life at SMM makes room for the Spirit to move through us, bind us together, inspire us and heal us.  And it continues to grow.

Sunday, September 9th: Reconnecting Sunday!
Following the 9:00am service, this event will feature two great opportunities to share in the life of St. Mary Magdalene.
The Outreach Committee will be hosting its annual Party Sunday, which is Outreach’s main fundraiser. Sign up to host and/or attend parties and fun events for a nominal fee. All proceeds go to support community organizations. It is also a great way to add some fun events to your social calendar! Please consider hosting a hike, happy hour, game night, theme dinner or similar event.  Please contact Bill Andrews for more info.
Also, we will be hosting a Ministry fair showcasing the many ministries, programs, and activities of St. Mary Magdalene.  Representatives from each ministry will be on hand to share information on their purpose, needs, and how you can get involved.
The Second Sunday Women’s Gathering will take place as scheduled at 10:45am.

Sunday Service Time Change

On Sunday, September 16 our Sunday worship service times will move to 8:00am (no music) and 10:00am (with music).  Please mark your calendars for this change.  We look forward to seeing you there!

New Centering Prayer Group?
Centering Prayer is prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. ~ Thomas Keating
We are considering offering a second Centering Prayer group on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. If you are interested in participating in this new group or would like more information please contact Carolyn Baker. More information about Centering Prayer is available here.
Calling All Supporters of Mental Health Awareness!
Meg Thornbury and Courtney Gambrell are planning to offer a Mental Health Support Group at SMM. It would be for both those who experience mental health challenges and for those who love someone affected by them.
If you have counseling or mental health expertise, or a general interest in this topic, we invite you to help us define the scope and structure of the group, and/or to be involved in its implementation. Please contact Courtney. We would love to share our ideas and hear your own!

Save the Date! – 2018 CROP Hunger Walk

Mark your calendars for this special parish-wide event to be held on October 21.  Donations support Community Food Share & Church World Service.  Let’s walk together in solidarity with those who hunger. Please contact Sue Crowley or Rick Fredo.
Buy Grocery Cards to Support St. Mary Magdalene
Did you know that you can support the ministry of St. Mary Magdalene by purchasing reloadable cards for stores such as King Sooper’s?  SMM will receive 5% cash back for all purchases made on these cards.  For example, in the second quarter of 2018 the church received $1,289.14 in proceeds from card use.  It is an easy and fantastic way to support our church community.  Contact Colleen Brolin to purchase cards or to learn more.
