by Fr. Bruce Swinehart
I’m as excited as a kid at a backpack blessing about the start of the program year at St Mary Magdalene.  And I know I’m not the only one.
As always, there will be lots of wonderful worship, prayer, music, activities, classes, programs, social events, and community outreach going on.  I know I will be educated, nourished, and inspired right alongside all of you.
But beyond the sheer quantity of good stuff going on, I’m even more gratified by how it’s happening. Some kind of spiritual energy is being unleashed at St Mary Magdalene and it is a wonder to behold.

A new Sign-Up Board is now located on the wall between the kitchen and the fireplace.  Check it out and sign up for providing Altar Flowers or Coffee Hour.

Reconnecting and Party Sunday! | September 9

Sunday, September 9th will be Reconnecting Sunday to begin the new program year.  This event will feature athe Party Sunday for Outreach. This is Outreach’s main fundraising event, so be sure to be there! It is also a great way to add some fun events to your social calendar! We are currently requesting folks to host an event, so please volunteer to host a hike, happy hour, game night, theme dinner or similar event. Please contact Bill Andrews with questions about Party Sunday.

Sunday Service Time Change

On Sunday, September 16 our Sunday worship service times will move to 8:00am (no music) and 10:00am (with music).  Please mark your calendars for this change.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Save the Date! – 2018 CROP Hunger Walk

Mark your calendars for this special parish-wide event to be held on October 21.  Donations support Community Food Share & Church World Service.  Let’s walk together in solidarity with those who hunger.  This wonderful event is looking for a SMM community leader to help our parish get organized and raise donations.  Please contact Sue Crowley at if you are able to take the lead.
2018 Outreach Christmas Project

Each year the Outreach Committee picks a charity to help during the Christmas holiday season.  Last year we collected gift cards (total $700+!) that we presented to There With Care, so siblings of sick children would receive gifts. We’d like your input on our 2018 Christmas project. If you’d like to make a suggestion contact Kim Freymiller.

St. Mary Magdalene Library Revitalization

There is interest in revitalizing the St. Mary Magdalene library to make it more user-friendly and also support some of the groups that meet in the library space — to highlight books they are using and allow parishioners to see what is being read by others in the church. We’d also like to create a space where people can find books to read for understanding of a topic or to receive encouragement for their lives. If you would like to be a part of this re-energizing of the library, please contact Linda White.
St. Benedict’s Seeks Volunteers
St. Benedict Health and Healing Ministry thanks St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church for its ongoing financial and in-kind support of our ministry!  Our free clinics and other programming operate at seven sites, providing basic health care screening, doctor and nurse consultations, education and referrals.  This health care “safety net” helps enable the uninsured and underinsured to find the ongoing care they need.
Volunteer health care professionals are always needed to staff clinics in Boulder, Longmont and Lafayette.  In addition, we use non-clinical volunteers to distribute medicine in shelters, serve on our Board of Directors or a committee, plan our annual fundraising event, and more.  If potentially interested in finding your role, please visit our website at or contact Bill Goodwin.  Thank you.
Buy Grocery Cards to Support St. Mary Magdalene
Did you know that you can support the ministry of St. Mary Magdalene by purchasing reloadable cards for stores such as King Sooper’s?  SMM will receive 5% cash back for all purchases made on these cards.  For example, in the second quarter of 2018 the church received $1,289.14 in proceeds from card use.  It is an easy and fantastic way to support our church community.  Contact Colleen Brolin to purchase cards or to learn more.
