2018 Outreach Endowment Grant Awarded to There With Care
By Kim Freymiller
The Outreach committee sent out invitations to twelve non-profits that we have previously funded and received six grant proposals. On July 9th the committee met to make a decision. We first narrowed it down to our top three. Then, after much discussion, we chose to award the grant of $5200 to There With Care. It was a tough decision!
There With Care assembles and delivers hospital care bags so parents can stay at their child’s bedside and consult with doctors making rounds. They deliver groceries and prepared meals so the children have nourishing food. Most children served are immune-compromised, and house cleaning services and monthly cleaning supplies are provided to reduce life-threatening germs. Patient and sibling support programs include tutoring and mentoring services, and age-appropriate activity bags for patients and siblings spending long hours at the hospital. For the littlest ones, the baby essentials program provides car seats, cribs, strollers and other items for families upon discharge from the neo-natal ICU.

Party Sunday!

Party Sunday will be Sunday, September 9th after the 9:00 service. This is Outreach’s main fundraising event, so be sure to be there! Save the Date! – 2018 CROP Hunger Walk

Mark your calendars for this special parish-wide event to be held on October 21.  Donations support Community Food Share & Church World Service.  Let’s walk together in solidarity with those who hunger.  This wonderful event is looking for a SMM community leader to help our parish get organized and raise donations.  Please contact Sue Crowley at if you are able to take the lead.
2018 Outreach Christmas Project

Each year the Outreach Committee picks a charity to help during the Christmas holiday season.  Last year we collected gift cards (total $700+!) that we presented to There With Care, so siblings of sick children would receive gifts. We’d like your input on our 2018 Christmas project. If you’d like to make a suggestion contact Kim Freymiller.

St. Mary Magdalene Library Revitalization

There is interest in revitalizing the St. Mary Magdalene library to make it more user-friendly and also support some of the groups that meet in the library space — to highlight books they are using and allow parishioners to see what is being read by others in the church. We’d also like to create a space where people can find books to read for understanding of a topic or to receive encouragement for their lives. If you would like to be a part of this re-energizing of the library, please contact Linda White.
St. Benedict’s Seeks Volunteers
St. Benedict Health and Healing Ministry thanks St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church for its ongoing financial and in-kind support of our ministry!  Our free clinics and other programming operate at seven sites, providing basic health care screening, doctor and nurse consultations, education and referrals.  This health care “safety net” helps enable the uninsured and underinsured to find the ongoing care they need.
Volunteer health care professionals are always needed to staff clinics in Boulder, Longmont and Lafayette.  In addition, we use non-clinical volunteers to distribute medicine in shelters, serve on our Board of Directors or a committee, plan our annual fundraising event, and more.  If potentially interested in finding your role, please visit our website at or contact Bill Goodwin.  Thank you.
Buy Grocery Cards to Support St. Mary Magdalene
Did you know that you can support the ministry of St. Mary Magdalene by purchasing reloadable cards for stores such as King Sooper’s?  SMM will receive 5% cash back for all purchases made on these cards.  For example, in the second quarter of 2018 the church received $1,289.14 in proceeds from card use.  It is an easy and fantastic way to support our church community.  Contact Colleen Brolin to purchase cards or to learn more.
