Parish News April 20, 2018
Thank You from the Colorado Haiti Project!
Thank you to the kind and generous community we have here at St. Mary Magdalene! We raised more than $10,000 on April 15 and funded at least 38 scholarships at St. Paul’s School in Petit Trou de Nippes, Haiti. On behalf of students like Marc Donald, Roodnaelle, Gedeon Othniel, Bedjina, Ednol, and others in the picture, MESI ANPIL (many thanks) for funding them and their classmates in grades 7-9!
We would like to continue raising scholarships for the next three weeks and hope to support even more students for their next school year. Members of the Outreach Committee will be available for the next few Sundays to answer your questions and to gladly receive donations in any amount. Please make checks payable to St. Mary Magdalene with “Haiti Fundraiser” in the memo line. Together we are making a difference helping students receive a quality education at St. Paul’s!

Matt Witherow will be stepping down as our Music Director effective May 1. Fortunately for us, he has agreed to stay on as our principal accompanist for Sunday worship. We do not anticipate hiring a new Music Director in the near future, but will be assessing our needs and creating a vision for our music program as we move through this time of transition. In the meantime, please feel free to contact Fr Bruce with any comments, questions, or suggestions you may have. And please offer a word of thanks to Matt for his outstanding work with us.
If you consider yourself a Newcomer, whether you have attended for three months or three years, and you have questions about further exploring your commitment to the community of St. Mary Magdalene, join us at 11:00am on Sunday, April 22, for a brunch and meaningful discussion about what it means to be a member of this community. Contact Sarah Jane Delaney with questions and to RSVP or sign up on the events table by the parking lot entrance.

Marge and Ed Szoke have selected a GREAT book for the Book Club! American Savior, a novel of divine Politics, by Roland Merullo. The premise is: Jesus Christ comes down to America and is running for president as an independent. It is quite humorous with themes of religion and politics, and a little bit of sex thrown in to help it sell. Marge and Ed will host us at 7pm, Friday, May 18, at their home. Respond, please, to Ed and Marge.
We are planning another “border immersion” trip to Nogales, a city on both sides of the US/Mexico border. We will learn how legal and illegal immigration affects on life along the border, talk with migrants, walk migrant trials, and visit a sister Episcopal church. We’ll stay at a community center on the Mexico side, and work with the children there. Please contact Fr Bruce to reserve a space or to learn more. Last year the cost was roughly $600/person, including airfare. Click here to see a recent article by the New York Times about Nogales.
