Showing Up
Susan Crowley
Six months ago, I was invited to serve as your youth missioner.  I had a long list of reasons why not to do this, but still could not walk away.   I decided to say “yes” even though I was that mom that avoided being asked to help with the children at church because I felt I needed a break from my own, and now as the youth missioner I have gone into youth events worried, “how is this going to work?”, “will we have fun?”.  To my surprise,  I have learned that in church community God is most present when our hands are at work or in celebration together.  That by simply showing up is where the growth and love comes. Party Sunday for Outreach!
Party Sunday is Sept. 10 this year, immediately following the 10am service.  Once again the Outreach Committee will be hosting our main fundraiser. There were no funds were allocated to Outreach in the 2017 budget, so these events will raise the bulk of the money to allow all of us to continue our support of the local and global organizations that help so many people. Last year, we raised $5,800 on Party Sunday!  Make plans to join us!  Contact Bill Andrews.  Event flyer>

SMM Book Club

Our next book is Inherit the Bones by Emily Littlejohn. Emily WILL BE WITH US at the club meeting! Janet and Bob Poley are hosting in their home at 7pm, Friday, September 15. This is a bloody murder mystery that takes place in a fictional town downriver from Leadville. Contact Janet or Bob for more information.
Godly Play Training
Please join Dennis, Julia and Sue on Saturday, September 16th from 9am to 12pm for a thoughtful and fun Godly Play training for all current and new volunteers!  Light breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Please RSVP to this event via Sue Crowley.
Christian Education Resumes
It’s that time of year!  Christian Education is starting on Sunday, September 17th.  Godly Play will be back in action for kindergarten and elementary aged kids.  The Youth Group will also be meeting for fellowship!  Contact Sue Crowley.
Calling all Acolytes!
Acolytes are essential participants to worship.  If you are a currently an acolyte or interested in learning about being an acolyte, please attend a training after church with Fr. Bruce on Sunday, September 17th!  Contact Sue Crowley.
Bake Communion Bread!
Would you like to bake communion bread? The recipe is simple – making and baking takes about a half hour on Friday evening or early Saturday morning.  Deliver the bread to the church before 10:00 am Saturday.  It is nice too if you present it at the offertory on Sunday morning, but not necessary.  This is a wonderful expression of service and care for your church family!  Find the recipe here!  Contact Janet Poley to volunteer.
