Parish News June 8, 2017
Exciting news! St. Mary Magdalene has partnered with Lifetouch photography to create a beautiful, color photo church directory. Lifetouch works with churches to provide low cost, professional directories. They are able to do this by offering photo packages for purchase to participants. No purchase is necessary but St. Mary Magdalene will receive 5% cash back for every photo package purchased. Directories will be provided with a suggested donation of $5 per copy to help offset costs to the church. Whether you plan to purchase a package or not, please sign up to to have your picture taken during one of the scheduled sessions so that a photo of you and/or your family will appear in this year’s directory. Each photo session will take approximately 30 minutes. More >

SMM, a BIG THANK YOU for your generous support of youth programming at the Pentecost celebration and Ice Cream Social. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $457 to aid our youth budget. We hope you enjoyed your ice cream sundaes!
Thank you to all who helped in recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month. After the conclusion of last Saturday evening’s service, when everyone else had gone, Mary Hardy and I placed the tile with stars on the altar for a time of silent prayer. We lifted up each person represented by the stars, and all the people who love them. We lifted up silent prayer also for the larger community of all persons in some way impacted by mental health challenges. We honored the courage that this journey requires and the hidden gifts of wisdom that are often the result, even in the midst of pain and uncertainty. Before leaving, I took the tile to the window and watched the evening sun warm it and change it from a cloudy night to a brilliant blue sky. The stars changed from opaque to glowing. I feel very sure that that moment holds a metaphor we can draw strength from. Thank you all again – Courtney Gambrell.
Bake Communion Bread!
We need some more bread bakers! We need bread for each week in July, August and September. The recipe is simple – making and baking takes about a half hour on Friday evening or early Saturday morning. Deliver the bread to the church before 10:00 am Saturday. It is nice too if you present it at the offertory on Sunday Morning, but not necessary. This is a wonderful expression of service and care for your church family! Find the recipe here! Contact Janet Poley to volunteer.
Over the coming weeks there are many openings available. Please take a moment to sign up to host Coffee Hour and/or provide flowers on the bulletin board by the church office.
SMM Community Garden Needs Volunteers!
The community garden is asking for more team members. We are looking forward to a very productive garden; last year we delivered hundreds of pounds of organic produce to food banks! Contact Barb Beaton.
