Conversatio Morum: Fidelity and Conversion by Fr. Bruce Swinehart
So far in our Lenten series on “Benedictine Spirituality in Community,” we have explored the vows of Stability and Obedience (Listening). The third thread that weaves Benedictine community life together is expressed in the Latin phrase: conversatio morum.

Although the precise meaning of this phrase is difficult to capture in English, it is usually rendered as “fidelity to monastic life” in modern translations of the Rule of St Benedict.  This means far more than simply sticking with it once one has entered into a Benedictine way of life.  It’s about letting that way of life bear the fruit it is intended to produce: transformation in Christ. Bishop’s Visitation and Coffee Hour | March 26
Once every two or three years the Bishop makes a visit to St. Mary Magdalene, and his next visit will be this Sunday, March 26th. There will be only one service at 10:00am.

Bishop O’Neill’s visit will be an especially festive occasion this year, as he will formally induct  Fr. Bruce as our Priest-in-Charge.  Due to Spring Break travel and scheduling we will celebrate with Coffee Hour (in lieu of a potluck) and Q&A time with the Bishop. Please take a moment to sign up to provide pastries or juice.

We hope you can join us!
